Welcome to First Steps Spinal Cord Injury Wellness Centre
FSWC MISSION STATEMENT
BOARD of DIRECTORS

The following individuals are our Founding Board of Directors.

Chris Lesanko, Founder

I am currently in my final stages of completing an Environmental Studies Degree – focusing on geography, from Bishops University. I am a partner/operator of an online sports memorabilia company. I am also an ambassador for the Rick Hanson Foundation. I have a strong passion for the game of Lacrosse, which has lead me to my current role as the Vice President of the Regina Field Lacrosse Association and head coach for the U-19 south Saskatchewan Provincial Lacrosse Team. In March of 2005 I suffered a spinal cord injury C4 C5 incomplete. I have attended Project Walk in California numerous times, each time a few months. I have made it my life mission to bring the training methods of Project Walk to Canada to help individuals in who have suffered a spinal cord injury.

Owen Carlson, BSc.

I have a Bachelor Degree in Science majoring in Physiology, while I believe this to be an asset to the board it is my passion and drive to help people obtain their optimal health that is the biggest asset I bring to the board. My experience working in Saskatchewan Health Care gives me an understanding of the healthcare system and some valuable contacts to look upon for advice. I also work closely with Health Quality Council on quality improvement initiatives in healthcare, one example being Clinical Practice Redesign. Aside from work I am currently working towards becoming an Exercise Specialist® through the American College of Sports Medicine. I am very excited about the opportunity to be a part of this venture and a part of the team that will direct First Steps Wellness Centre moving forward and in seeing that the mission and purpose set forth are followed.

Charlene Secundiak, BSW, RSW

I am a registered social worker who has worked for 2 health regions in Saskatchewan, first as a Facility Based Home Care Coordinator in a Regional Health Center and secondly, with Mental Health and Addiction Services. I have had additional experience working with a community-based organization providing early intervention services to children with developmental delays. Through my varied work experiences, I have developed strong advocacy skills to promote equality and inclusion. I look forward to sharing my experiences and contributing professionally and personally to the board of First Steps Wellness Centre.

Brian Ganong

Film and Video Director/Producer. Much of my film and video career has been focused on training, promotion, or activism supporting people with cognitive or physical disabilities. Though my work film and video industry are true assets for being involved in a project such as First Steps Wellness Centre, I have gained much more valuable experience over the last two years working hands-on with Chris on his recovery. Traveling to Project Walk in California with Chris twice now has given me a clear picture of how badly needed the facility and program really are, and how important it is to the health and well-being of its clients.
